Abstract : Several aspects of the problem of the stress distribution in an infinite elastic wedge are considered. First, the Mellin transform formulation of the problem, where there is a prescribed symmetrical loading on the two faces, is carefully analyzed in terms of regularity conditions as r approaches infinity and as r approaches 0+ to determine whether the boundary-value problem is well-posed and whether the formal Mellin transform solution satisfies the desired conditions. A power series formulation of the Airy stress function in terms of residues is obtained from the inversion integral. Closed form solutions are given for the special cases of half-wedge angles of pi/2 and pi with the prescribed loading function, f(r) = e to the -rth power. (Author)
