Abstract : A new method of visualization of supersonic flows in wind tunnels is described. This method uses glow discharges in air and has all the advantages of discharge techniques and is, at the same time, very sensitive. The peculiarity of this method lies in the use of the nozzle as a cathode. A brief critical review of the existing methods where the model serves as a cathode is followed by a schematic diagram of the setup and a description of the experimental procedure. The advantages of this system and the mechanism of visualization are outlined. (Author)
