Abstract : Tests were conducted to evaluate the human engineering aspects of both the Watervliet and U. S. Army Tank-Automotive Center (ATAC) versions of the XM-138 Self-Propelled Howitzer. The evaluation produced two major conclusions: (1) There are differences between the two systems in terms of time to load, but the required rates of fire can be met with both. (2) Two-man team-loading is the fastest and safest loading technique. Various recommendations were made concerning safety and ease of operation of scopes. (Author)
