Abstract : A table is given showing the dependence of crystalline structures of elements on the number of electrons in the incompleted electronic subshells of its atoms. The conclusion is drawn that the types of crystalline structures of the elements depend on the configuration of the outer electronic subshells acquired by the atoms prior to crystallization. Crystalline structures of elements not governed by the 8 - N rule are determined by one or both external electronic subshells that are crystallographically most active and by the number of electrons they possess at the time the atoms crystallize. Elements governed by the 8 - N rule form valence molecular crystals with the participation of allowed s- and p-levels, which are crystallographically most active. (Author)
