Abstract : The document acts as both a reference and a tutorial manual for the graphics system at Carnegie-Mellon University. It concentrates mainly on software. The graphic equipment can be used at three levels--either off-line, with graphic monitor and with user program interaction. The off-line use is briefly treated: the manual specifies how a human can set up visual displays using the graphic hardware. Next the monitor use is described; it provides comprehensive management functions which are typically initiated by an interrupt button being pressed. Some of these commands take parameters which are typed in using the keyboard. The commands allow one to manage the display storage buffer, to store pictures on a filing system, to display a core dump and to patch the core. One can also use a scope as a teletype, by typing the program on to the screen and requesting the monitor to submit the program into the batch genre. User program interaction is described in some detail, the user interface being structured as routine calls. Finally, a brief description of the graphic monitor program is given. (Author)
