Abstract : The report is a survey of diagrams and graphical methods used in thermodynamics, especially those that are important in the field of jet propulsion; it is a result of an extensive literature search. Part I deals with changes of state, including the pressure-volume-temperature system, the enthalpy-temperature-entropy system, and diagrams where one of the coordinates depends on composition. Heat transfer processes are treated in Part II. Part III covers the pressure-velocity diagram for ideal gases and new types of diagram valid, for example, for gases with varying specific heats. The fundamental structure of the diagrams is considered at the beginning of each section and the behaviour of the curves is derived from the basic equations of thermodynamics. The available working diagrams are described and reviewed and details are given of the range of validity, the dimensions of the diagrams and the units used. (Author)
