Abstract : The boundary layers produced on rough surfaces in adverse pressure gradients were investigated. Experimental data on two pressure gradients are studied and compared with flow over a smooth surface. Experimental data obtained with both pitot tubes and hot wires are carefully analyzed and corrected for the effects of high level turbulence. An improved pitot tube correction is proposed. It is shown that a boundary layer on a rough wall will separate more readily than on a smooth wall. (Author)
