Abstract : The heats of combustion of solid and liquid trinitromethane were determined in a polymicrocalorimeter, these amounting to 792.2 plus or minus 3.2 and 816.5 plus or minus 2.8 cal/gram, respectively. From this have been calculated the enthalpy of formation of solid nitroform at standard conditions as being -11.5 plus or minus 0.5 kcal/mole, and for the liquid phase -7.9 plus or minus 0.4 kcal/mole. From the relationship of the pressures of the saturated vapor over solid and over liquid trinitromethane the heat of sublimation was calculated as being 11.0 plus or minus 0.1 kcal/mole, and the heat of fusion as being 7.8 plus or minus 0.1 kcal/mole. The energy of dissociation of the C-H bond in trinitromethane was determined to be 100.5 plus or minus 3 kcal/mole. (Author)
