Abstract : Crystals of In2O3 grown from a PbO-B2O3 melt show habit changes and imperfections that appear to be related to the growth mechanisms and to the relative supersaturations in the melt. The crystals show surface features indicative of growth by two-dimensional corner and edge nucleation followed by growth spirals due to screw dislocations. Striations and trapped flux occurred in the crystals when the crystals grew by corner and edge nucleation. The frequency of the striations decreased when the primary growth mechanism changed from edge nucleation to a screw-dislocation mechanism. (Author)
