Abstract : Clinico-epidemiological observations established endemicity of tickborne hemorrhagic fever in Stavropol region. Based on the observations, hemorrhagic fever in Stavropol region was contracted not only through tickbites, but also by person-to-person contact, i.e. by contact of the skin and mucous membranes with blood and body secretions of the patients (sputum, vomiting masses, etc.) as actually happened in this type of infection within a hospital. Incubation period for the observed cases of hemorrhagic fever contracted from patients ranged from 4 to 6 days. Persons ill with hemorrhagic fever represent a danger by acting as a source of infection for healthy people only after 3rd to 4th day of illness. Early hospitalization of the hemorrhagic fever patients is strongly recommended for 2 reasons: (a) isolation of the patient who is a potential source of infection; (b) application of early treatment. Hemorrhagic fever patients should be hospitalized in private rooms or isolated wards in which a strict regime must be observed in order to prevent person-to-person infection within the hospital. In moderately acute and acute forms of hemorrhagic fever, intensive hemostatic treatment and cardiovascular remedies are recommended, and in acute forms additionally an expedient streptomycine administered intramuscularly and desintoxicational therapy should be prescribed.
