Abstract : The formation of the developmental cycle in Ixodidae ticks has apparently been influenced by adaptation to parasitism on different animals. The progressive cycle may have developed in relation to the changing fauna of hosts. On this basis, the developmental cycle on the usual host is regarded as formed during evolution and the type of parasitism to be fixed for the species. Feeding on an unusual host (at the present time) may lead to appearance of atavistic features in ixodid tick development. (Author)
