Abstract : Backing up an acoustic sample with a solid material is to be avoided as this has a definite effect on the longitudinal waves. The hysteresis found in iron is real and the cause at present is unknown. The peculiar effect of two linear portions in transit time versus pressure has only been observed in the C prime sub 11 longitudinal wave in iron. (Author)
