Abstract : The force constants of a series of nonmetal hexafluorides were calculated using a modified Urey-Bradley Force Field, and the results correlated according to the position of the central atom in the periodic table. On this basis, the recent vibrational assignment of IF6(+) by Christe and Sawodny was questioned; it is suggested that the nu1 and nu2 assignments should be reversed, and that nu4 has not been properly identified.
