Abstract : After a brief description of test set-up and of the data evaluation the results of a dynamic research into a medium sized vertical milling machine are discussed in this report. The compliance frequency responses for two degrees of freedom (table plane) are determined under working conditions. For this the random noise theory was applied. The following milling conditions were varied: position of table, vertical milling, static preload, and feed of table. The stability cards computed by means of the measured frequency responses are compared with the results of experimental chatter tests, which are carried out under the same milling conditions. Some theoretical considerations about the dynamic interdependence of the cutting force components are made. Hereby the frequency responses, the power spectra and the coherence functions of the cutting force components are analysed. (Author)
