Abstract : The spline functions of degree 2m-1 which solve the interpolation F(nu) = Y sub nu (for all integers nu) (Quart. Appl. Math., 4(1946)) are here characterized by certain extremum properties. Also their behavior is studied as m approaches infinity. (Author)
