Abstract : Experimental studies of wave propagation in metals have used almost exclusively a variety of surface measurements from which internal characteristics have been deduced. Based upon speculations concerning the behavior of a small amplitude oscillation in the presence of a finite plastic wave, this report examines the possibility of reflecting an ultrasonic pulse off a large plastic wave front. By examining the echo return, one could deduce information concerning the characteristics of the finite wave and thus have means of probing internally. (Author)
