Abstract : Hollow electron beams find wide use in modern microwave tubes. The wave propagation on such beams, focused by finite magnetic fields, is studied under smallsignal conditions. The dispersion relation for slow waves is derived, and numerical solutions are presented in graphical form. Two types of axisymmetric modes can exist on a hollow beam, which are called spacecharge and vortex modes. The radial propagation constant and the plasma frequency reduction factor are shown for a number of typical cases. A brillouin diagram is given for a beam of perveance 5 microperv. Comparison is made with results of earlier publications which use the finite field approximation. (Author)
