Abstract : The purpose of this study was to compare the restoration policies of rebuild or overhaul to determine which is more economical. A mathematical model was used that incorporates only those costs which show a significant difference between an overhaul and rebuild restoration policy and that incorporates only those variables which are judged to have a significant impact on the model output. The data used to derive these results was obtained almost entirely from Department of the Army records through AVCOM. Once the data had been substituted for the variables in the model, a computer program was written. A sensitivity analysis was then developed and applied to each of seven independent variables. Finally, a consideration of the effect of government furnished materiel as opposed to contractor furnished materiel on total cost of a rebuild or overhaul restoration policy was made. (Author)
