Abstract : The yellow rust of wheat has a wide spread in Northern and Central Europe, the central Asiatic republics of the USSR, England, South Africa, India, Japan and U. S. A. It is not found in South America, New Zealand and Australia. Puccinia glumarum stands out among the cereal rusts because of its peculiar sensitivity to temperature. Its distinguishing features are its resistance to comparatively low temperatures and weak resistance to high temperatures. Many investigators explain the geographic spread of the rust, particularly in the northernmost areas, and the outbreak of epiphytotics in colder weather by this peculiarity. (Author)
