Abstract : Conductances as a function of pressure at 30C were measured for the following systems: tetra-iso-amylammonium picrate in diethyl ether, benzene and anisole; sodium bromide, tetramethyl ammonium bromide, tetrabutyl ammonium bromide and tetrabutyl ammonium tetraphenylboride in methanol and in ethanol. The pressure range extended to 5000 atmospheres (except for benzene, which freezes under a pressure of about 750 atmospheres). Densities and dielectric constants under pressure were measured for toluene, o-xylene, p-xylene, cumene, diethyl ether, di-n-propyl ether, anisole, n-butyl chloride, chlorobenzene, 1,1-dichlorethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, and 1,2-dibromoethane. Viscosities under pressure were measured for n-propyl ether, diethyl ether, isopropanol, cumene, n-butyl chloride and 1,2-dichloroethane. Apparatus and methods for measuring conductance, dielectric constant, density and viscosity under high pressure are described. (Author)
