Abstract : The investigation of a Faraday type generator is carried out under the assumption of low electrical conductivity. Therefore, the fluid and Maxwell equations can be decoupled, neglecting interaction between plasma and applied magnetic field. This leads to Laplacian equations for the stream and potential functions, which are solved by the method of Fourier series expansion, subject to mixed boundary conditions. The resultant infinite set of equations for the Fourier coefficients can be solved numerically to desired accuracy. Hall effect and ion slip are included. The first part starts from only one pair of electrodes and thus yields end effects resulting from a lengthening of the current lines in the plasma. In part two and three, generalizations for variable velocity profile, several pairs of electrodes and also variable electrical conductivity are pointed out. In the last chapters the method is compared to other approaches and a numerical calculation of the internal resistance for several values of Hall parameter and aspect ratio of the generator duct is carried out.
