Abstract : The normal velocity field on arbitrary three dimensional scattering surfaces, struck by a weak acoustic plane wave is considered. Numerical solutions for a right angle wedge and a right angle corner (i.e., three orthogonal edges of infinite length) are found. For the wedge, the angle between the wave front normal and the wedge edge may be arbitrary, while for the corner the wave front normal is taken to form equal angles with the three orthogonal edges to make use of symmetry. In both problems, the scattering obstacle is assumed to have a free surface (i.e., pressure is zero). The wedge problem, for which an exact solution is known, is used as a test case for the various numerical procedures used. (Author)
