Abstract : The paper presents a study of the variations of the dipole impedance in broadside, collinear, and rectangular arrays as functions of scanning angle. The formulation is based on simultaneous integral equations for currents, and the current distributions are represented by two even terms and one odd term. Three matrix equations are solved for the coefficients of currents and impedances and radiation patterns are calculated. For broadside array, from the edge toward the center, the impedance exhibits circular to almost straight behavior in impedance plot. For collinear array, the impedance for spacing close to a half wavelength shows a several large circular rotation to a smooth straight line behavior in the impedance plane for the dipole location from the edge to the center elements. The impedance for the large spacing is close to that of a single dipole. They are also compared with that of infinite arrays. The effect of these mutual couplings on the radiation patterns is also illustrated. (Author)
