Abstract : The purpose of the report is to show the development of a glass composition which is suitable for use as a core material in fiber optic devices operated in the near UV portion of the spectrum. The report specifies the required properties of the glass. It also describes the approach used to obtain the optimum combination of these properties, consistent with available time, money and equipment. A short section on the basic theories is presented as background. (Author)
