Abstract : Organic compounds that can be thermally degraded to yield permanently liquid solvents for ionizable salts for use in the proposed thermal reaction battery continue to receive attention. It was confirmed that benzaldehyde phenylhydrazone undergoes pyrolysis to give benzonitrile, and that acidic reagents accelerate the reaction. Benzaldehyde trimethylhydrazonium salts were found to undergo rapid cleavage at 230-240C, giving benzonitrile and a trimethylammonium salt as major products. Hence, the hydrazonium salts are promising candidates for use as electrolyte carriers. (Author)
