Abstract : The skin-friction law is directly derived from the outer velocity law, avoiding any detailed analysis of velocity profiles or of boundary layer thicknesses. A rough solution of the kinetic-energy integral equation yields the structure of the law, and a critical screening of accurate solutions yields the correct coefficients. The skin-friction law so derived describes: the stagnation-point flow, very well; the pressure minimum flow, perfectly; the setting of separation, accurately; the crossing of separation, realistically. Slightly modified, it also describes the similar flows and evidences the deep difference between similar and nonsimilar separation. (Author)
