Abstract : Theoretical and experimental studies are carried out for the determination of stress intensity factors for the configuration of a crack progressing along a series of equally spaced collinear slits and holes, respectively. The analysis involves the use of a Westergaard stress function in obtaining the stress intensity factor between successive slits. An experimental compliance technique is described for the configuration containing a central crack and nine collinear holes in 2024-T3 sheet specimens subjected to uniaxial tension. Results from the two phases are then compared. (Author)
