Abstract : The problem of wave flow of a thin liquid film on a hard surface is solved analytically by using a method developed by the author and a system of equations comprising the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations. It is assumed that the surface of the liquid is free from any air friction effect. A film of liquid not bounded along the x-axis with time average thickness aO is considered and periodic solutions with respect to x are sought in the form of traveling waves. The solutions obtained here are applied to interpretation of experimental data obtained by P. L. Kapitsa and their accuracy is evaluated. Good agreement is obtained with respect to the values of average thickness and velocity of wave propagation, although the agreement is less good with respect to amplitudes. The comparison confirms sufficiently good accuracy of the solutions obtained here.
