Abstract : Aerodynamic coefficients of a two-dimensional slender wedge were obtained from tests conducted in a hypersonic shock tunnel. Tests were performed with a three-component acceleration compensated force balance at nominal Mach numbers of 15.9 and 19.5, with free-stream Reynolds numbers (based on length) of 270,000 and 70,000, respectively. For this range of Mach number and Reynolds number, experimental lift results were in good agreement with predictions obtained from the theoretical development of Mirels and Lewellen; drag results tended to be in better agreement with Bertram. However, experimental values for maximum lift-to-drag ratio were below values predicted by both theories by approximately 25 percent for M = 19.5 and 31 percent for M = 15.9. (Author)
