Abstract : In studying processes taking place in various furnace installations it becomes necessary to investigate molecular exchange, which plays a decisive role in chemical reactions during diffusion burning. Experimental data show that molecular exchange is more intensive in a turbulent flow than in a laminar one. A physical model is used to describe turbulent flow which permits consideration of two types of exchange: turbulent (turbulent diffusion) and molecular accelerated by turbulence (accelerated molecular diffusion). Based on physical concepts of the process of turbulent mixing of a jet and a wake flow statistical parameters are introduced, which are necessary for the analytical description of the flow problem being considered. Results are given of an experimental study of the mixing rate of a turbulent jet to the point of molecular homogeneity. (Author)
