Abstract : A number of questions concerning the accuracy of computational processes are analyzed. It is noted that at the present time there are two approaches to the problem of accuracy of machine computation. The first consists of isolated analysis of the component errors of the computational process and is directed toward the location of computer algorithms which most accurately correspond to the problem analyzed. The other approach consists of treating failures, breakdowns, algorithmic errors, errors in program compilation, etc., as errors in the computing process as a whole, and the synthesis of computers is performed with consideration of errors in such a manner as to reduce their influence on the results of computation. From these view-points some general methods for designing interference-stable computer processes are explained. The concept of a computer structure is presented and investigated. Certain methods for increasing the reliability and accuracy of computers are analyzed. (Author)
