Abstract : Heat exchange intensification from the wall to boiling Hg may be accomplished hydrodynamically by increasing the flow rate with turbulence-producing inserts which destroy the vapor layer and improve surface washing, and phys.-chem. by improving Hg wettability by adding surface-active substances i.e., alkali and alk. earth metals, and removing the oxide film from the heat transfer surface. Large vols. of Hg and Mg amalgams were boiled at 1-10 atm. in vertical and horizontal tubes. (Author)
