Abstract : Reflection spectra in the infrared region were obtained and electrical conductivity and density were determined for a glass of disilicates composition in which one alkaline oxide (Na2O, K2O or Li2O) was gradually replaced by another, their total content remaining constant. Also given are spectra of monoalkaline glass containing 16-20% alkali whose structure, in the opinion of certain authors, forms the structure of disilicate glass. Principal characteristic features of spectra of dialkaline glass do not confirm this assumption and testify to the proximity of their structure to that of monoalkaline disilicates; however the sections with a microheterogeneous structure have a modified composition as compared to monoalkaline glass. Electrical conductivity passes through an outer limit (minimum) for all three combinations of alkaline oxides, and density passes through a weak maximum only for sodium-potassium glass. (Author)
