Abstract : Testing Cl. botulinum toxin type A at various times after its preparation it was found that the toxin was not always toxic to the same degree for albino mice and guinea pigs. With the aging of toxin, the toxin's titer decreased to a greater extent for mice and to a lesser degree for guinea pigs. Such qualitative change in properties of Cl. botulinum toxin was noticed only with a decrease in titer as a result of natural aging; it was absent after artificial decrease of titer, e.g. with a partial inactivation of the titer following thermal processing.
