Abstract : The immunogenic and reactogenic properties of M-44 live vaccine against Q-fever were tested on workers of four factories were tested on workers of four factories which in 1956-1958 showed a rate of infection of 4.7%. Serological tests made on this occasion (1963) showed a rise to 28.1%. The vaccine was injected once subcutaneously in the subscapular or shoulder region in 10 to the -4th power dilution (0.5 ml). The complement fixation test was run for all subjects just before inoculation and again 58-84 days after treatment. A total of 485 persons were vaccinated; 115 of them showed a positive reaction to Q-Rickettsiosis in titers of 1:10-1:40. The subjects were kept under observation for 3-5 days and contact was maintained for 2-3 months. No significant difference was noted in the general reaction between subjects with positive results and those with negative results in the complement fixation test given before inoculation. No allergic reactions occurred in either group. Serological tests were run on 396 persons 2-3 months after vaccination. In the group negative to Q-fever before vaccination, 223 out of 282 persons were positive to Q-fever in the complement fixation test (average titer 1:26.6). The vaccine was effectively immunogenic in the dosage used and harmless. (Author)
