Abstract : The prediction of infrared radiation from non-isothermal, inhomogeneous, non-scattering gaseous systems, such as those present in practical flames and aircraft or rocket plumes, is described in this report. The purpose of this work was to determine whether these predictions could be made using existing information for homogeneous gases, when the gas volumes were viewed from distances great compared to their largest dimension. These calculations appear feasible using numerical techniques coupled with information on the spectral absorption coefficient and flame or plume properties for the system of interest. (Author)
