Abstract : The report presents the formulation of a general theory of nonequilibrium flows of gas mixtures, with an arbitrary number of rate processes, to within first order terms in the affinities. From this general formulation first and second order, linear and nonlinear small perturbation theories for fields with small deviations from either uniform or nonuniform equilibrium flows can be obtained in a unitary manner. As an instance of application, a second order theory for subsonic and supersonic nonequilibrium steady flows is derived. (Author)
