Abstract : The dynamics of an initially equilibrium spherical bubble growing or collapsing in an infinite inviscid, incompressible liquid due to a step change in the system pressure is analyzed. The effects of phase change, interfacial discontinuities and noncondensible, permanent gases within the bubble are included. It is disclosed from the study that the effects of phase change and interfacial discontinuities are entirely negligible at least under the pressure conditions investigated and the presence of noncondensible, permanent gases within the bubble results in a 'rebound' of the bubble size from the minimum volume which it attains.
