Abstract : Numerical techniques for obtaining the flux distribution in the end region of high speed homopolar alternators are discussed. The required partial differential equations are developed. Special numerical formulae are derived to satisfy appropriate conditions on these boundaries. The technique of representing the air gap and stator slots by means of artificial current filaments is described. In part 6, numerical methods for obtaining the two dimensional field distribution in the saturated solid rotor induction machine are presented. A representation of the cross section of this machine is proposed. Also included is an approximate B-H characteristic with which to describe the saturation of the rotor iron. The required partial differential equations are derived from Maxwell's equations. For the numerical solution, a grid system is established together with the required difference approximations of the partial differential equations and boundary conditions. Difficulties of obtaining sufficiently rapid convergence of the solution are described. (Author)
