Abstract : It is well known that a temporary anemia occurs frequently in the early period of training to the strenuous physical exercise. This anemia is named 'sports anemia'. Yamada clarified its cause as due to an increased fragility of the red blood cells. In other words, it is a kind of hemolytic anemia. This hemolytic anemia is characterized by the decreased resistance of the red blood cells to hypotonic salt solutions. The aim of the study was to clarify why the resistance of red blood cell is decreased and the erythrocyte is apt to be destroyed in strenuous muscular exercise. (Author)
