Abstract : Functions analogous to the Papkovitch functions of classical elasticity are derived for Mindlin's linear theory of elastic dielectrics whose energy density of deformation and polarization depends on the gradient of the polarization, as well as on the strain and on the polarization itself. These functions are then used to solve the problems of the sphere and of the spherical cavity, in the absence of all external actions, in order to display the influence of surface curvature on the surface energy of deformation and polarization inherent in the theory.
