Abstract : The paper studies the influence of the temperature on the coefficient of friction of polyamides in the case of artificial heating. The tests were carried out with a MAST-1 friction machine. After the mathematical treatment of the experimental data an empirical curve showing the dependence of the coefficient of friction of polyamides on the temperature is constructed. The functional dependence of the coefficient of friction on the temperature shows that even a comparatively slight increase of temperature in the zone of friction gives rise to a considerable increase of the coefficient of friction. An analysis of the influence of temperature in the zone of friction on the coefficient of friction of polyamides, after subsequently working up the problem of design, permitted the generation of a new design of sliding bearing with rotating polyamide bush possessing elevated loading capacity, improved heat elimination, and increased resistance to wear.
