Abstract : Expressions for the electromagnetic field components at the interface between the first and second layers of a two-layer conducting earth produced by a horizontal electric dipole antenna have been derived for the quasi-static range. Special attention has been given to the case where (1) the measurement distance is much greater than a skin depth in the upper layer but comparable to a skin depth in the lower layer and (2) the conductivity of the upper layer (sigma sub 1) is much greater than the conductivity of the lower layer (sigma sub 2). The special cases of (1) a thin layer, (2) a thick layer, and (3) sigma sub 2 >> sigma sub 1 are also considered. (Author)
