Abstract : Phthalate plasticizers based on straight-chain alcohols have gained wide acceptance in poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) compounding in recent years, because in contrast to the branched-chain plasticizers, i.e. dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), they possess superior low-temperature flexibility and lower volatility. The efficiency of the straight-chain phthalate is also better than that of the branched-chain counterparts. To meet the increasing demand for straight-chain plasticizers new straight-chain alcohol facilities are now on-stream. The intent of this paper is to show how the straight-chain phthalates can be effectively used in electrical PVC compounds. (Author)
