Abstract : Tensile tests were performed on silver, zinc, and aluminum single crystals in ultra high vacuum. The surfaces of silver samples were cleaned and all the samples were annealed using electron bombardment prior to testing. During the easy glide region of tensile deformation the samples were exposed to a wet oxygen or air contaminant atmosphere. (Author)
