Abstract : Emphasis in this report was placed on the planning and initiation of several experiments designed to lead to an understanding of the photovoltaic mechanism operative in CdS solar cells which have been developed in this laboratory. Experiments include measurements of the diffusion and solubility of copper in CdS crystals, and a measurement of the thickness of the Cu2S layer in typical solar cells. Also mentioned is work on the construction of a vacuum evaporation system and the development of ohmic contacts to CdS crystals, both of which are essential to this research program. (Author)
