Abstract : A summary is presented of the results of the initial phase of an experimental program to measure absolute directional intensities of cosmic ray muons from energies of a few BeV to approx. 1500 BeV. During this phase of the program an underground muon telescope has been installed in the Mont Blanc tunnel and a magnetic momentum spectrometer has been built at College Station, Texas; both of these instruments are presently in operation. In addition a second magnetic spectrometer has been designed and the construction of this instrument has begun. Other activities include the design of apparatus to transform spark chamber photographic data to a digital format and a review of theoretical calculations of processes which give rise to the muon flux.
