Abstract : The calculated radiation patterns of an illuminated square aperture parabolic reflector are compared with those of a circular aperture parabolic reflector having the same focal length and a diameter equal to the square side length. The circular aperture's focal length-to-diameter ratio is one, and its diameter-to-operating wavelength ratio is 60. The E vector's orientation in the linear aperture illumination wave is varied from parallel to the aperture diagonal to parallel to the sides of the square reflector. The main advantage of the square aperture reflector is the increased side lobe suppression in the E-H plane when the feed horn is in the latter orientation. (Author)
