Abstract : The report describes the development of a sandwich structure to reduce vibration amplitude, also to move to a safe region the resonant frequency of the aluminum Azusa Transponder Housing during firing and in flight of the Atlas missile. A sandwich structure comprising the transponder floor and cover plate facings, bonded to an aluminum honeycomb core was found to lower substantially the vibration amplitude and moves the resonant frequency towards the safe frequency region (2000 cps), but does not entirely eliminate the problem.
