Abstract : The continued research and investigation of Domain Tip Propagation Logic (DTPL) was carried out under the program reported here. Improved logic and shift register devices were designed, implemented, tested and shown to perform according to expectations. On the basis of these studies, a final design for the magnetic thin film portion of a DTPL arithmetic unit is established. In addition, explanation is given about the results of experiments performed on the crossover element, punch-through diode, new DTPL AND gate, and modifiable logic element. A thorough investigation of planar Hall effect is carried on. This effect can be employed not only as a non-destructive readout technique, but also as a memory coupling element. Through the use of the magnetically controllable current produced by the Hall voltage a new property for use in memory devices is suggested. Furthermore, from the theoretical Hall effect dependencies, the planar Hall voltage is employed to measure several magnetic properties of thin films. The coercive force, anisotropy field, dispersion, skew, etc., are examples of magnetic properties measured from the Hall effect studies. In addition, improved methods for fabricating the Hall elements are studied and the Hall effect readout elements are produced. Various experiments show the effect of the domain tip introduced into the low coercive force channels. Finally, Domain tip velocity and other related subjects are described, stressing the importance of these subjects in the implementation of DTPL shift register. (Author)
